OH, THE PLACES YOU’LL GO!

OH, THE PLACES YOU’LL GO!

A number of years ago, Dr. Seuss wrote a children’s book called Oh, the Places You’ll Go! It’s a delightful read for youngsters, focusing on the wonderful adventures in store in a life well-lived and, of course, all the things our great big world has to offer. We’ve always loved that book because it captures the spirit of adventure that leads us to travel. It also helps us stretch our imagination of where we can go next on a river cruise.

While Select Waterways focuses on Mississippi River cruises, Danube River cruises, Rhine River cruises, and French river cruises as part of an extensive array of European river cruises, other waterways beckon those who are a bit more adventurous. As it turns out, a company like Viking River Cruises also offers India with Ganges River cruises, Russia with Volga River cruises and Egypt with Nile River cruises.

NILE RIVER CRUISES

Cruise the Nile in a manner once reserved for queens and pharaohs

For 12 adventure-filled days with Viking River Cruises, experience Egypt and the Nile’s most wondrous sites in style and luxury. Set sail on an eight-day voyage onboard the all-suite River Tosca. Wander amongst the towering ruins of the Temple of Karnak, the world’s largest ancient religious complex, and the entrancing Temple of Luxor. Visit temples dedicated to Hathor, Horus, and other mythological figures, and pay homage to the country’s first female ruler at the Temple of Hatshepsut. Follow in the footsteps of renowned scholars and explorers as you venture forth into the Valley of the Kings, the ancient burial grounds of Egyptian royalty. You will enjoy an exhilarating ride in a felucca, a traditional Nile River sailboat.

This captivating itinerary begins and ends in Cairo, where you’ll visit the famous Egyptian Museum and its stupendous and unrivaled collection of pharaonic artifacts, including treasures recovered from the tomb of King Tutankhamun. Journey to Giza to gaze upon the mighty ancient Pyramids and the timeworn, enigmatic Sphinx—iconic images that continue to amaze.

An enchanting land of marvels, myths, and wonders old and new, Egypt is an extraordinary destination no culturally curious traveler will want to miss.

GANGES RIVER CRUISES

Profoundly mysterious and gloriously exotic India

Complex and beguiling, India is a country unlike any other. Wondrous sights rich in romance and intrigue come alive in the “Golden Triangle”—Delhi, Jaipur and Agra. Delhi’s immense red sandstone marble tomb, commissioned by Emperor Humayun’s grief-stricken wife, will capture your heart, while Raj Ghat, a black granite memorial to the “Father of the Nation,” Mahatma Gandhi, will stir your soul. Jaipur’s Pink City and Agra’s Taj Mahal, a grand tribute to love, will leave you forever mesmerized.

This adventure by land and river will touch all of your senses, from Kolkata, where Mother Teresa’s humble home and tomb provide a place of pilgrimage, to the Rajbari Temples devoted to the Hindu god Shiva. Your Ganges voyage delves deeply into India’s fascinating historical and religious heritage, working its charm in myriad ways and leaving you with memories that will forever endure.

Start your trip with five luxurious nights at three different award-winning Oberoi hotels. Enjoy a rare opportunity to see the Taj Mahal two times—once at sunrise and once at sunset. Once onboard your Viking River Cruises’ ship, travel to villages lining the Ganges River that only a few people get to see each year and experience Viking’s new Wellness Program, centered around the destination’s ancient tradition and practice of yoga.

Available on every Viking River Cruises sailing, the complimentary Wellness Program – led by a certified and resident yogi – will celebrate the holistic health benefits of yoga with daily sessions introducing the different types of yoga, group lectures and classes as well as individualized meetings, so that guests at every stage of their practice can participate in this culturally immersive program comfortably. An accompanying “Nutrition and Wellness Food” menu has also been developed especially for this program. Featuring organic items and guidelines for eating healthy, the menu will be available daily during breakfast, lunch and dinner service.
